Des Anderson is the Director of Alumni Relations for the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University. She says she was “drawn to ARCS Oregon because its mission to support STEM scholars aligns with what I’ve spent much of my career doing – building strong communities that elevate education and research.”
"We live in a time of profound planetary and societal change,” Anderson explains. “Like most, I’m looking for ways to find hope. Viewing hope as a verb - hope through action - there is no better time to be supporting scientific research. ARCS is making an impact by empowering scholars as they address and create solutions for our world's most pressing challenges."
“As part of a university community, I interact daily with faculty, students, and alumni who share my dedication to advancing the role of Earth science in solving the world’s most pressing problems,” Anderson explains. “Collaborating with passionate donors, volunteers, and researchers at CEOAS, I’ve seen firsthand the impact of strategic support for innovation. Joining ARCS feels like a natural step to me.”
Anderson did fascinating work before joining OSU in 2016. She spent much of the previous decade between Honduras, England, and Germany, building and managing programs for organizations such as the Peace Corps, Habitat for Humanity, Royal College of Surgeons, and the Adelante Foundation. She’s a current member of the Council for Support of Education (CASE).
Her hobbies include gardening, watercolor painting, tennis, pottery, and wine tasting.
