Meet New Member Linda Wallmark

Posted on Friday, November 18, 2022

My husband and I have always had a strong interest in science, and so we enjoyed the annual ARCS fund-raiser immensely. We also have a son who just recently was granted tenure at the U of O. He teaches musicology and has a science-based approach. He studies timbre in music and uses fMRI scanning to track brain activity in timbre perception. We are well aware of the struggles of a young scholar raising a family while getting an advanced degree. We want to continue supporting others in the same position now that our son is fully (and finally) launched!

Since retiring, my life has been taken up with friends, family, camping and hiking, gardening, attending live music events, meditation and climate activism. Three years ago, we moved from Salem, where we lived approximately 40 years, to Eugene to be near our son and his family.

While in Salem I was one of the leaders of the local climate group, 350 Salem, where I trained youth on climate change and advocacy, represented our group in working with the city to create a climate action plan, spoke at public venues and planned activist campaigns, rallies and forums.

Since coming to Eugene, my husband and I represent 350 Eugene in the statewide coalition, Divest Oregon, calling for legislation requiring the Oregon Treasury to divest from investments in fossil fuels. I also serve as the coordinator of my faith group's managing council.
