UO Scholar Alums Further Their Science in Virginia

Two ARCS scholar alums from the University of Oregon are now working at Virginia universities. 

Michael Crawford received his PhD in physical chemistry from UO. He now works as Assistant Professor in the department of chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University, which is rated as “a top 50 public research university” by the National Science Foundation. Michael’s research at UO focused on how molecules behave after absorbing light. He used short laser pulses to focus on molecular changes in nanohoops.  

Katja Kasimatis received her PhD at UO’s Institute of Ecology and Evolution. Now Assistant Professor in the biology department at the University of Virginia, her lab will study the evolutionary genomics of sexual conflict using genetic engineering and experimental evolution in Caenorhabditis nematodes.
