The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) will honor Mollie Marr with the 2018 Anne C. Carter Leadership Award at its 103nd annual meeting award ceremony on March 24, 2018. This award is presented in recognition of her outstanding student leadership in AMWA.
Mollie Marr is an MD/PhD student at Oregon Health & Sciences University currently in her first year of graduate studies in the Department of Behavioral Neuroscience. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University where she double-majored in Theatre and Psychology and minored in Applied Theatre. She joined Damien Fair’s lab in 2017, and is using neuroimaging techniques and machine learning to understand how maternal stress relates to infant neurodevelopment and ongoing emotional development. In 2017, she was named an ARCS Foundation Scholar and a Society for Neuroscience Early Career Policy Ambassador. She was one of the founding members of her school’s AMWA branch and is currently one of the Executive Chairs. In this role, she helped organize a conference called Strength through Stories and is working to expand research on gender equity in medicine. For fun, Mollie enjoys reading and history.
In the words of her nominator, Dr. Eliza Chin, “Mollie embodies so many of the ideals reflected in the Anne C. Carter leadership award. She has been a leader at both the local and national level. She has dedicated herself tirelessly to the cause of advancing AMWA both locally and nationally. She is passionate about AMWA initiatives in women’s health, sex and gender specific medicine, gender equity, and gender bias. Her academic strengths stem from expertise in both science and the arts, which align so well with AMWA’s recent initiatives. Few student leaders are so deserving of this award prestigious award. Mollie Marr is one such leader. Her record of service, advocacy, and academic merit speaks for itself, I cannot think of a better candidate.”
There is also an opportunity to submit a congratulatory ad to recognize Mollie Marr in the AMWA meeting program book. This book will be distributed to all conference attendees, shared digitally with AMWA networks and posted on the AMWA website. Information about commemorative advertisements is available at www.amwa-doc.org/amwa103 under the exhibitor/sponsorship tab.
