Charitable Giving and Oregon's Historic $5.6 Billion "Kicker"

Posted on Tuesday, February 27, 2024

Oregon is the only state with a law designed to return taxpayer dollars every two years when there is a surplus of revenue. This year, Oregon’s kicker will send back over $5.6 billion to individual taxpayers. It is estimated that the median taxpayer will receive a credit of just under $1,000, and the top 1% of earners will receive more than $44,000!

“The kicker always feels like a windfall, and I decided to put a portion of it, $1000, towards ARCS Foundation Oregon's match with the MCM (Maybelle Clark McDonald) fund.  Another portion will go toward downed tree removal which is from another type of windfall," said ARCS Board Member, Beth McQueston.

ARCS Foundation Oregon is in a period of significant growth and mission-expansion. In today’s challenging nonprofit environment coupled with an election year where some charitable dollars will be diverted to candidate support, individual giving for capacity-building and operations is more critical now than ever.

If you are receiving a payout from this year’s Kicker, please join Beth in using a portion of it to make a charitable gift to ARCS and/or other worthy nonprofits here in Oregon. It is also a great time to donate appreciated stock given the market’s performance over the past few months.
