New Member Spotlight: Meet Shea Steingass

ARCS Oregon scholar alum from Oregon State University, Dr. Shea Steingass is the Environmental Project Coordinator for Benton County, OR. She coordinates and provides public outreach for four separate county programs: roadside conservation of threatened and endangered butterfly and plant species, the Agriculture and Wildlife Protection community grant program, non-lethal coexistence with beavers for private landowners and municipalities, and stormwater quality and pollution prevention.

Shea’s academic interests include applied ecology and informed management of wildlife species and science communication. She is currently on the Communications Committee for the International Bio-Logging Society and is Co-Chair for the National Beaver Working Group's Communications Committee. Shea's work has been featured in many formats which include national television, news, radio, podcasts, marine science blogs, and dozens of public presentations. An avid forager and small-scale farmer, Shea has also published a homesteading cookbook with recipes, tips on stocking a pantry, and information on being a self-sufficient home chef.

Shea is a courtesy faculty member with the OSU Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences and an affiliate faculty member with OSU's Marine Mammal Institute.
