Marr, ARCS Oregon Scholar, Receives Inaugural Women in Academic Medicine Health Professional In-Training Award

Posted on Tuesday, January 29, 2019

ARCS Oregon scholar Mollie Marr received the inaugural "Women In Academic Medicine Health Professional In-training Award" on January 29 at OHSU. Congratulations to Mollie!

The Health Professional In-training Award recognizes a student, resident, fellow, or postdoc who has made significant contributions in research, clinical care, education, service, or policy while she is in training. The letters of nomination and support speak to the significant accomplishments the individual has made–such as developing a new clinical or educational program; efforts to impact policy at the institutional, local, regional, or national level; or significant research accomplishments.

Mollie Marr, the inaugural recipient of the Professional-In-Training Award has demonstrated excellence in all of these areas. Mollie is an MD/PhD candidate and second year student in the Department of Behavioral Neuroscience where she studies maternal psychological stress and infant neurodevelopment in the lab of Dr. Damien Fair. She received her BFA from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University with a double major in Theatre and Psychology. Mollie is a founding member and Executive Chair of OHSU's American Medical Women's Association Branch and is the President Elect of the National Student Division. She is a 2018 recipient of the Joan F. Giambalvo Fund for the Advancement of Women to investigate how to fix the leaky pipeline during medical training, a recipient of a Mozilla Foundation grant to study gender inequality in letters of recommendation, she is an ARCS Scholar which is designed to fund the most exceptional research talent in the state, wrote and produced a film about American Physicians in World War I that was screened at the French Embassy, and - when being introduced by Dr. Sharon Anderson at a rally to raise awareness regarding policy that could have fundamentally changed graduate education - she was aptly described as the "future Dean of the World."

Here are a few quotes from the people who nominated Mollie for this inaugural award:

From two of her peers: "Mollie is the most deserving person we can imagine for this award. As a student, she goes above and beyond for anything she sets her mind to. She is devoutly involved with the OHSU community, and constantly strives to lift up other women in science and medicine."

From her PI: "Mollie is the kind of student who jumps in, giving every ounce of energy and passion to the work she does, and is able to rally her classmates and faculty members at OHSU and beyond to consistently achieve extraordinary things."

From her Program Director: "I will say quite simply that Mollie is a star. Her activities and leadership will extend far beyond OHSU to touch students across the country."

The members of ARCS Oregon congratulate Mollie for her achievement as the Inaugural Professional In Training Award Recipient!
