Posted on Sunday, April 28, 2024

Sarah Bascom

Sarah grew up in Seattle, where she completed her undergraduate and graduate education at the University of Washington and Antioch University, earning a BA in political science and an MA in education, respectively. After meeting her husband, she moved to Eugene where she studied landscape architecture at the University of Oregon and had her own garden design business. When her first child was born, she chose to stay home to raise her family. Her last child just started college, so she now has more time to pursue personal interests such as travel, oil painting, and tennis.

While in Eugene Sarah has been on the board of the Eugene Education Fund and the Eugene Parks Foundation.

She has a second home on Decatur Island in Washington State's San Juan Islands. Decatur Northwest is a community of 100 homeowners who share 600 acres of common land. At present Sarah is in her second year of a three-year term as vice president of the board of the Decatur NW Homeowners Association. The board is responsible for hiring staff, managing the land trust, and actualizing the organization's CC&Rs and by-laws.
