Recent ARCS Events

  • 10th Anniversary Celebration - Light Years Ahead

    Light Years Ahead was the theme of the evening as ARCS Portland Chapter marked its first decade with a celebration at Waverley Country Club. Following the Annual Meeting for members, guests entered the Waverley dining room where vibrant shooting star balloon centerpieces welcomed all to a stellar dinner party.  An evening of toasts ensued from  Oregon State University President Ed Ray, OSU Foundation President Mike Goodwin, OHSU President Joe Robertson, and  OHSU dean of the School of Medicine Mark Richardson as they thanked the Portland Chapter members for their years of philanthropy.  Toasts continued as all in attendance thanked  our chapter's founders Mary Ann Lockwood, Nancy Fischer, Cornelia Stevens, Ellen Richardson and Sharon Hewitt for their vision.  The evening culminated with additonal generous pledges to successfully fund the 10th Anniversary Scholar Award, the chapter's fourth award in perpetuity.

  • Sunil Joshi, ARCS Scholar at OHSU, Receives Soros Fellowship
    Sunil Joshi is the first at OHSU to receive the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship Award. The fellowship supports outstanding immigrants and children of immigrants who are pursuing a graduate education in the United States. Sunil's research interest covers intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms of drug resistance in the setting of acute myeloid leukemia. He works with Brian J. Druker, MD, a world-recognized expert in cancer.
